On 4 – 5 February, the CASCADE project partners gathered for a workshop in Copenhagen. The purpose was to review the components of a curricula for training in the climate change risk assessment methodology for the local level developed by the project. The training is tailored specifically for the local level context in the Baltic Sea Region and will be available for all countries in the region.

In the scope of the CASCADE project, trainers from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland and Sweden will be trained in the material. Thereafter, these trainers will offer the training to stakeholders in their respective country.

The curriculum is developed by the CASCADE partners, who represent both the civil protection sector and the climate change adaptation field. The training material offers an approach where Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation are addressed in an integrated manner. The aim is to promote holistic assessment and planning in the management of climate change risks, where all relevant sectors at the local level are involved in the work process.

The CASCADE project is now in its second year. During 2020, the CBSS Secretariat as coordinators of Policy Area Secure and Horizontal Action Climate in the EU Strategy of the Baltic Sea Region will organise several policy dialogue meetings. National consultations will be organised in each of the project’s target countries and together with one transnational consultation. These consultations will focus on the challenges and needs in working with climate change risks assessments and management. The consultations will result in policy recommendations.
